How to grow trust before you start

Your reputation is the asset. A collaboration only works if the first conversation is slower than a pitch.

The fastest way to waste a collaboration is to promise a result before anyone has looked at the work.

Start with what is true. If it is a fit, you write the next step down. If it is not, you stop. There is no fee either way.
